Don’t be fooled by the size. There is more than meets the eye when you can count only seven blocks of town. Formerly a stagecoach stop, Los Alamos is rich in Old West history and is surrounded by beautiful acres of vineyards, farms, and ranches. Los Alamos is referred to as “Little LA” by locals for its large share in the foodie movement as well as wine and arts.

Climate

On average, there are 285 sunny days per year in Los Alamos. The July high is around 81 degrees. The January low is 38.  In Los Alamos, the summers are long, comfortable, arid, and clear. Winters are cold, wet, and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 38°F to 73°F and is rarely below 30°F or above 82°F.

Visit the Farmer’s Market for a taste of local produce. Area annual events include Santa Ynez Valley Restaurant Week, Taste of Solvang, Buellton BrewFest, Los Alamos Old Days, Danish Days, Celebration of Harvest, Los Olivos Jazz & Olive Festival, Vintners Spring Weekend Vaquero Show & Sale, and Christmas in Santa Ynez Valley. The Los Alamos Third Saturday Stroll offers special events every month. Los Alamos Old Days celebrates the town’s heritage with arts, crafts, car show, barbecue, parade, and a dance. Ferrini Park is an ideal locale for a picnic, volleyball, sports, and engagement with nature. Stop by the historic 1880 Union Hotel for a glimpse of the past. Stop by the wine tasting rooms, antique stores, and art galleries as you browse the downtown area.

There is one public elementary school in the Los Alamos area. There is one private school in Los Alamos, and it is a pre-kindergarten program. The closest college is Allan Hancock College–about 15 minutes away–in Santa Maria to the north.
