This small, picturesque agricultural town boasts a rich, colorful history. It is perfectly located between the ocean and vast, agricultural fields near the famous Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes, a National Natural Landmark and a perfect place to enjoy nature.

Climate

On average, there are 282 sunny days per year in Guadalupe. The July high is around 69 degrees. The January low is 43. In Guadalupe, the summers are short, comfortable, dry, and mostly clear, and the winters are cold, wet, and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 42°F to 73°F and is rarely below 34°F or above 85°F.

Culture

Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve County Park is located here, and it is the northernmost beach along the Santa Barbara County coastline. The immense sand dunes and sprawling, sandy beach is perfect for beachcombing, birdwatching, whale watching, fishing, hiking, picnicking, surfing, and walking. The Dunes Center Dunes Center presents a thriving education program and docent-led walks. The Guadalupe Dunes are famous for a 1923 movie by pioneer filmmaker Cecil. B. DeMille who built the largest set in movie history in the dunes. Oso Flaco Lake is a bird-watching paradise and natural preserve. Hiking enthusiasts will love the trails at Point Sal State Beach Park. Guadalupe also offers  an art museum, Rancho de Guadalupe Historical Society, public library, veteran’s memorial, the Masatani Mansion, an old Buddhist temple,  and a very small, historic jail building.  The Mexican Independence Parade is an annual event.
